Marius had himself voted a seventh consulship, but then within just a couple of weeks of taking it up that January, he kicked the bucket. Sella was getting reports of the dire situation now in Athens. People were scouring the acropolis for chamomile flowers to eat. They were boiling down the leather from their shoes and oil flasks to make a grim stew.
