Is ECMO a Good Idea?

Step two is the respiratory failure reversible. I think intuitively it all makes sense to us that things like an acute asthma exacerbation or that postoperative patient that has that acute, no negative pressure pulmonary edema are great candidates for ECMO. The other extreme is that patient with the interstitial lung disease that's unfortunately not a candidate for lung transplant. And in between in there are probably the more common patients that we're cannulating for. These are the patients with your aspiration, pneumonitis that's really bad, viral or bacterial pneumonia,. which is incredibly relevant to this season right now.
