The Decline of the West
In the Roman world and in early Christianity, persuasion was an elite art. The goal is always to elevate yourself above others rather than persuade them. I feel sad for Scotland when I see how poorly a lot of people react even to the language of political persuasion. It also makes me think of big, sweet history.
