I was 18 with my own show, basically. It was 6.30 on BBC Two. And he just took a chance. I can't imagine that happening now. But especially in those days, I think individual TV executives used to have a lot more power than they did. Even within Channel 4 News, these days, the bosses are all over big decisions of who gets what job - and you've got to be able to get on with bosses.
