Bilkis babangada first noticed the emergence of a small new radical islamic sect in midugary. It formed under the leadership of a young preacher, mohammed joseph. He preached against anything he regarded as anislamic or deemed to have a western influence. The group's arabic name officially meant the group of the people of sunna for preaching in jehad. So locals gave them the unwonted nickname bogo haram - meaning 'western education is forbidden' Over the years their following only grew from hundreds to thousands. But overtimed tensions with the authorities increased.
