As you move from a stage of black and white to a stage of complexity and gray, you're actually not rejecting the first stage. Scott Peck called it transcend and included Richard Rors said you're only an elder if you can look at the people who are not elders and still think of them as equal to yourself. Anthony de Melo calls it moving out of your individual wells and into the great ocean. And I tell you what that takes an enormous amount of maturity.
