Machine Learning Models Are Throwing Out Outliers
When you get down to it, any model for machine learning is throwing away innumerable amounts of information. It's the hubris of the ML practitioner who believes that we can capture reality with data. We're never going to be, no model is ever going to be right all the time. So we want generalization as much as possible.
