Chinese companies have a huge incentive to try to revamp their accounting standards. Because they operate in an autocracy, they're not able to do so lawfully in their own country. Chile has been one of the shining stars in emerging markets performance as well because of their diversified commodities exposure. The countries that will benefit from any kind of decoupling from China are those with stronger institutions and rule of law.

Prior to Fidelity, Perth lived and worked in Beijing and Hong Kong, where her observations led her to explore the relationship between freedom and markets. Perth is a frequent speaker at investment industry events and provides commentary for various financial media including Barron’s, Bloomberg, Cheddar, CNBC, CNN, Fox Business, Institutional Investor, MarketWatch, Morningstar, and the Wall Street Journal.
