Sometimes when you are the only black employee in a majority white space, there's a pressure that what you do is going to be a reflection on all your people. So we want to be really mindful of that. It keeps us from seeing each other, te actually seeing who's in front of you. I was in conversation with someone who started saying very derogatory comments about people in the l g b t c community. When i started challenging what they were saying, literally, their response was, you can't tell me anything because i had a gay roommate before.
