The Evolution of Exercise Science

In the early days of exercise science, it was mostly done in universities by professors studying students. And so they were pretty untrained relative to what we would say is trained for a good endurance athlete. They're not training for 45 minutes a day and then extrapolating from those early studies into today's best athletes. So that doesn't look quite like that among the best right now. But you can get a little bit of data from a few sources from rowing or other sports where people are doing more intensity but at a slower rate than before.
