Introduction
The benefits of prophylactic antibiotics for hospitalized patients with severe alcohol-related hepatitis are unclear. Infection rates were significantly lower in the Moxacillin-Clavulinate group, but there were no differences in the incidence of a paterino syndrome or improvements in liver function scores below predefined thresholds. Doctors U.N. Forest and William Burnell recommend overlapping antibiotic treatment with subsequent corticosteroid therapy after treatment of baseline infection.
