I think he just had a very hard time being who he was. He was brilliant and he was also kind of you know like incredibly pretentious. I get the sense of this person who is deeply deeply drawn to people but at the same time couldn't entirely be at home in that life. That's funny because that was my entry into Kierkegaard as well as this famous passage where he's smoking a cigar.
