The Relationship Between Sociology and Politics
The relationship between sociology and politics goes in both directions. In classical Marxism, for example, there was a form of social science that was connected very organically to politics. But now what we have is a kind of social science which doesn't have that political pressure really largely doesn't exist. And so it's not just that sociology can be politically or could be or would be good if it were politically relevant. It's that sociology in a sense needs that kind of political focus to force the kind of discipline forward as an intellectual enterprise too.
