The Leading Tone Tension in Happy Birthdays

Leading tone has an important function and can have a lot of musical tension much like the perfect fifth does. Being closer to the second tonic, the leading tone leads better as it's just a hairline away from resolution. So this isn't an uncomfortable tension, it's quite a hopeful one, but that doesn't make it any less tense in the mechanical sense.
