Xenophon's Rejection of the Post

G.S. Elias: Xenophon was nominated to be leader of the army by Sparta, which had just won a long war with Athens. He says he didn't think it made sense because there was another Spartan present and that reminded him of his former role as an imperial power in Greece. The Spartans chose Kairusophus who became chief commander; they set out from Sanopi on their way along the Aegean coast. Elias: Here we're seeing some of the considerations that might have occurred to Xenophon at this time.
