Arcadia Trial: Evaluating DOACs in ESIS with Atrial Cardiopathy
The chapter discusses the results of the Arcadia trial, which evaluated the effectiveness of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with embolic stroke of unknown source (ESIS) and evidence of atrial cardiopathy. The trial compared apixaban and aspirin, but was stopped prematurely due to futility, showing no significant benefit of apixaban over aspirin for preventing recurrent strokes. The chapter also explores the limitations of the trial and ongoing analyses being conducted.
