The Covenantal Nomism of Judaism
Sanders looked at Jewish texts in their own right and tried to ascertain what he called, you know, a pattern, a pattern of Judaism. He came up with this little formula, covenantal nomism, meaning Judaism wasn't about earning God's favor like "grade for class" But rather there was hybridity of the mercy and grace of God as we see in the Exodus or throughout Israel's history.
