Threads is a new social app from Meta. It's designed to be based on individual posts rather than big feeds of images. Mark Zuckerberg has spent a long time, some combination of envious of and indirect competition with Twitter. Elon Musk bought Twitter in the fall of 2022, and by all accounts basically started immediately running it into the ground.
As Meta launches its Twitter competitor, The Verge’s David Pierce says that we are watching the end of the social internet in real time.
