In the Platonic tradition, this is expressed in the axiom, light can only be known by light. Heidegger's actually bringing back this deeply in the Neoplatonic idea of participatory knowing as a deep con-deformity between you and the world. This is a participatory knowing that is a dynamic coupling. But that is what you need to respond appropriately to design.
