Parables Can Be So Effective
The parable offers a fantastical image, two eagles, one of the eagles late becoming a sort of gardener, and two plants. The story has a series of stages that we can identify, three in particular. One of the reasons why parables can be so effective is by reframing reality in terms of a different story. When the person telling the parable challenges his hearers to make judgments on the basis of it, they can often arrive at different assessments than if they were being told a straightforward, literal account of what was going on.
