The Outworking of a Covenant

The covenant that God forges with the people of Israel is when he takes on all of the risk and Israel receives all of the reward. In a world before there was lawyers and signing documents, there was a formal way to seal or to cut a covenant. And so we need an experience to mark the moment, to inhabit, to remember it, to put it down and to pass it on.
