The Importance of Standing in Public Law Litigation
LZ Granderson: It's absurd to say that courts are constitutionally prohibited from adjudicating the request for an injunction in the very same lawsuit. LZ: The court is avoiding responsibility by using these rules about standing, which has greater implications than just this case. He says it becomes a huge impediment to actually protecting people's civil rights in this country. lz: This use of standing as the bar to accessing remedies for people who have been harmed by the government will become a trend at the Supreme Court and in the lower courts after this case.
