We Didn't Go to War in Iraq Because of a Bad NIE
Robert Zoellick: No one probably has a better understanding of what actually happened in Iraq than you do. He says we didn't go to war with bad intelligence, but no one read the NIE in the first place. Of 77 senators who voted to authorize use of force in Iraq, only six of them read beyond the five-page summary and had every code word imaginable signed by their staffs. "I just saw this coming," Zoellick said when he realized Democrats were going to try to blame him for not backing up his judgment on WMDs.
