Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury Management

The seven-year-old male has traumatic brain injury, pulmonary contusions and is at risk for pediatric ARDS or commonly known as PARTs. The patient should have a intracranial pressure or ICP monitor or even an external ventricular drain or EVD placed for CSF diversion in consultation with the neurosurgery and trauma team. A cerebral perfusion pressure or CPP of at least 50 in our seven-year old patient and ICP of less than 20 has actually been shown to improve outcomes and reduce mortality.
