Using the Laodont Sound System in a Second Language
Laodont Sound System appears to be designed to allow several kinds of aliphony induced by second language learners and still be clear. So it seems like there was massaging done to make it possible to mispronounce various sounds and not have them be likely confused with others. But unless you want to invoke quantum tunneling, I can't think of any good physical reason for gross asymmetries even in an alien language.
