The Contrarian View on Deep Learning
I don't think that people understand the vast quantities of data and time that are required for using something like an advanced algorithm like deep learning. If you're going to have a 600 layer neural network, you'd better be prepared to have millions and millions of not billions of records. And for a particular type of problem, you may need that for most of the problems that I've ever dealt with across 30 years. A lot of that is bright shiny objects that are more likely to waste time and effort versus getting the job done.
