When it's time to deal with your email, i think the most important tip is stop all the new messages from arriving. Leave your in box paused, move on to something else, close it even do your task. And then the next hour or two hours, or whenever you decide its time again, unpause, get all the messages, pause, deal with what's there, and then move on tosomething else.
