JP Coovert has a wonderful YouTube channel where he shows how to use all this stuff. You can also pick up the book and keep the book on hand when you're drawing your maps, but practice it out. The kind of symbology that's used in here is very straightforward. More about texturing and cross hatching and things like this. Again, there's no ideal solution. Takes a little bit of time.
