CHAPTER

The Basic Mechanism of All Effect

Yark's work is looking at what are the basic categories of affect in the human brain. He distinguished between bodily affects, which he divided into intreceptive and extra ceptive types. The intrceptive type being the kinds i h've spoken about, like hunger and thirst and sleepiness. Extra receptive ones, or sensory affects, like pain and disgust and fright and so on. Emotional affects too, are homeostatic in the sense that there is a violable range that we must remain in. But it also has enormous implications for psychiatry, and indeed for psychotherapy,. For understanding what our whole emotional lives are about.
