There are huge numbers of Spaniards who don't really are not interested in Flamenco, and there are even barriers to many ordinary Spaniards getting to know it. During the Franco dictatorship, the regime played up certain aspects of Flamenco to represent Spanish identity. Meanwhile, ultra-conservatives have at times looked down on Flamenco as indecent and immoral. The question is, how does Flamenco grow its popularity at home and abroad? Many people may see flamenco as a symbol of Spain as a whole, but its origins lie in one specific part of the country - Andalusia.
