The Importance of Classics in Archaeology
I came to archaeology through classics and actually it was through Greek mythology as a kid listening to a radio broadcast series on the Odyssey. So I ended up majoring in classical studies, which involved the languages and ancient history as well as archaeology. And then I focused on classical archaeology for my masters and my PhD. What are the really cool things about classics as a discipline? It is inherently interdisciplinary that at some point you have to be exposed to all of those different ways of thinking about and understanding the period.
