The Importance of Reliability
There are tons of assumptions throughout statistics that we just kind of turn a blind eye to and hope that everything will be okay. And what's funny is some of the early concerns about that appropriately focused on the unreliability of the difference score. But there's actually much more at hand than just simple reliability. We don't do students a favor when we begin teaching this at an introductory level, because we kind of set up an unrealistic expectation.
