The Death of Jesus Christ on the Cross
The death of jesus on the cross galvanized, rather than destroyed, his movement. His followers came to believe that he had actually resurrected from the dead. There was a widespread common belief among jews in the late second temple period when all of the dead would resurrect. And this could be linked together with other pre-existing jewish idea for a messiah who would redeem the jews.
