The Great Migration of African Americans
The conditions that motivated 6 million African Americans to break all ties and leave cannot be understated. Every four days somewhere in the American South, someone was lynched for some perceived breach of that caste system. "I often say that this migration was not about geography ... It was about freedom and how far people are willing to achieve it," she says.
