Is This a West Coast Liberal Thing?
In late 2016, Golden Gate Park installed a protected bike lane on a stretch of road. The city agreed to run with the idea and install a protected lane on that same spot. For legal reasons, they couldn't just leave up the post that had been put there for a spice. But it was totally a three point shot for these guys at the transformation agency. It met their goals of one, drawing attention to unsafe conditions, two, increasing safety for cyclists and pedestrians, and three, getting the city on board with more rapid and effective safety improvements.
