The Effects of SSRIs on Emotions

Up to half of people taking antidepressants experience an unwanted dampening of both positive and negative emotions. A team led by Barbara Sahakian at the University of Cambridge looked at SSRIs' emotion dampening effects in people who don't have depression. The finding suggests that SSRIs reduce people's sensitivity to rewards and other pleasurable experiences. But as Sahakian told Claire, I hope it would make doctors have a discussion with patients about their potential side effects.
