The Importance of Putting an Ego as the Enemy
I was always fascinated by the fact that Kurt Kemet, who's one of the best heavy metal guitars of all time, was a student of Joe Satriani. I think we can imbue the things that we're doing with a sort of self-importance and pomposity that makes the craft of the actual thing much more difficult. That's inherently humbling and it's inherently antagonistic to the ego because you can't sit at the knee of someone so much better and still have delusions about yourself.
