Is Music Crucial to Editing?
I was a very experienced editor when i was asked to do the first cut of the joseph campbell in the power of myth series for p b s. So i did the first cut on paper, never having edited film before. I went up to new york to look at it in bill moyer'sr office and i threw out my whole edit because while it made sense mentally, you couldn't edit it by the ideas. You had to edit the music. The discipline and editing is to always allow for an idea you haven't had yet that might throw everything in a different direction. But i think we often forget that te that is part and parcel of the wealth and narrative
