The research community that works on what is known as wireless tracking describes a range of different potential applications. A few years ago researchers demonstrated how hackers could collect leftover Wi-Fi that comes out of the house. And then decipher those signals to at least detect the presence of people inside. More recent research by Carnegie Mellon shows that hackers could potentially access much more detailed information about activities within a home through a similar technique.
