The Vision of the World: Death as the Enemy

In Job, death is referred to as the king of terrors. God honoring humanity's free ability to make decisions and have responsibility for lives will give them over to their self-made, self-chosen, self-determined lives. If that is what God honors, life apart from the one who is life is just a slow-withering death. And so this is actually what Mary appeals to when she's talking to Jesus in the passage that we just read. He doesn't say just that there's some kind of resurrection coming. He says, I am the resurrection in the life.
