So what are the common things that a we you would typically diagnose in patients that present with our sleep medicine issues, or things that manifest in the oral cavity? Ee, for sure. The thing that i look at as soon as someone opens their mouth is, are they able to open mouth? Cause that gives me a look at jaw function veryvery simplistically. I look a whether there's any deviation of the jaw when they open because that gives me an idea of what wy or what could be happening,. In terms of what type of disfunction could be occurring, and why a gives me an inkling anyway. Just in real simplistic terms, not even going into hard anatomy here

Frequently it’s the case that the underlying issue for many of these patients – airway and sleep disorders – remain undiagnosed and untreated until it’s picked up by a dentist.
A thorough dental assessment can reveal signs and symptoms that go on to trigger further investigations or referrals to ultimately uncover what can be a life changing diagnosis for a patient.
Dr Rohan Krishnan recently completed his masters in the field Sleep Medicine and Orofacial pain management. He explains the important role dentists play in the initial diagnosis and management of sleep and airway disorders.

Dr Rohan Krishnan is a General Dentist and practice owner in West Pymble, NSW. He is the current Vice President of ADA NSW where he is also a board member and councillor, Chair of the Board of Directors for “Filling the Gap” and a board member of the Australian Dental Council.
Rohan is an Honorary Clinical Associate Lecturer at The University of Sydney and has recently completed a MScMedicine in the field of Orofacial Pain Management. He is also a Graduate of the Australia Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
