Prototyping Without Competition in the 1970s
The F-16 and the F-18 are two of the finest weapon systems in the U.S. arsenal. The relative success of several aircraft from the 1970s was by no means secured by seemingly well-designed policies, writes Robert Perry. Boyd began developing a theory that would transform the evaluation of aircraft design at Georgia Tech. He also recently finished an instruction guide called the Aerial Attack Study which became the definitive encyclopedia of air-to-air combat.
