5% of applicants to Ivy League schools are athletes, legacies and donor kids. But they represent close to 30% of admits. It matters because these institutions are over represented in positions of leadership too. If you're born into the elite, you're going to remain in the elite. And this is one of the myriad ways in which class mobility is stunted.
