In 19 82, the c d c received a report of a 62 year old man with hemophelia who had died from numa tis deumonia. This was part of a larger, alarming trend of outbreaks of these opportunistic pathagans killing people who had been healthy just months before. The blood bornp is started out controversial, and many organizations demanded more solid studies before any policy changes were made regarding the blood supply. Eventually, additional cases in 19 82 showed that the pathagin could be transmitted through blood, but the causitive agent was still unknown at this ime,. so there was no way to screen the blood against it.
