The New York City Green New Deal Climate Mobilization Act
Local 187 is part of the New York City Green New Deal Climate Mobilization Act passed in 2019. The idea is to drive deep emission cuts from buildings, which are responsible for a very large percentage of the city's greenhouse gas emissions. Law places carbon caps on most buildings larger than 25,000 square feet - about 45 to 50,000 properties across NYC. Mayor de Blasio has a big choice here: He can either side with working Yorkers who need jobs and cleaner air or lower utility bills.
