Writing Is a Physical Physical Practice for Berger
It's interesting that Berger credits Tyler with having taught him to write, but then he defines being taught to write as learning spelling, straight lines, spacing and words leaning the right way. It does seem really significant for Berger that even in that mechanical way of writing, it's also thinking of writing a little bit as drawing. Part of where Berger's Marxism shows up is just in understanding the complexity of labor. When you make a mark on paper, there's a whole history - not just in the language, but also in your posture and your implements.
