This is what's known as the lame duck session. It's this last little period while Democrats still have control of the House and the Senate before the new Congress starts. A big thing that has happened during this session is that marriage legislation passed, a motion that aims to enshrine a right to both same-sex marriage and interracial marriage. The federal agencies are funded through December 16th. If Congress does not pass a government funding bill by a week from today there could be a possible shutdown.
