LZ Granderson: How does one determine what's essential? Is there a framework? Well, I do talk about it within essentialism, but even in the years since essentialism was written, I've come to see this more clearly. LZ: A non-essentialist seems to me to simply start from the outside in. They start out there, they try to drink the ocean, it cannot be done. It means that there's nothing left of them or hardly anything left for their family. And so they're left at the end of the day almost exhausted in the thick of thin things.
