The Battle of Maida

The Battle of Maida was the first major victory for British ground forces in quite some time. The 78th Islanders marched up close to a pro-French Swiss unit, believing them to be friendly. They were torn apart by a devastating close-range volley. Today, the battle is mostly forgotten, but apparently there are still places in the UK named after Maida.
