The Importance of a Skeptical Prior
There's certainly precedent for progress getting faster in different domains, but I think there's not really precedent for the level of self improvement. The book was written before machine learning became the dominant paradigm in the world of AI. And machine learning just doesn't work that way. Like if you were to leak the code associated with training in the AI system, people wouldn't actually care that much about it.
